This 993 page hardcover book was published posthumously from John Northern Hilliard’s manuscript. The author had previously written The Art of Magic by Mr. Downs and was encouraged t o write another book bringing magic up to date by Carl W. Jones and Howard Thurston. The book is subtitled, ” A Practical Treatise On Modern Magic.” It is composed of 32 chapters; 19 of which deal with cards. The other chapters cover magic with silks, magic with balls, coin magic, cigarettes and cigars, bills, ropes, the Chinese rings, mind reading, stage presentation, stage tricks and illusions and many more. Harlan Tarbell provided 1150 black & white illustrations based on poses modeled by Jean Hugard.
